  • 5 pounds tart apples, peeled and diced
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the topping:
  • 1½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup ( 2 sticks) chilled butter, diced
For serving:
  • vanilla ice cream
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F degrees and grease a 9x13" baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the apples, granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Pour into the baking dish, then set aside.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, salt, oatmeal, and butter. With an electric mixer, mix on medium-low speed for 5 minutes, until the butter forms pea size lumps. Spread the topping mixture over the apples.
  4. Bake for 1 hour, then serve warm with ice cream.
